APPLY TO BECOME AN MKC ASSOCIATE

I'm so excited to be hiring an associate photographer to help provide the MKC Photography graduate experience to University of Alabama graduates! The Associate will work along MK to learn the ropes and eventually take on graduate shoots of their own!

You may already have your own photography business, be looking for something part-time, have just graduated or are a seasoned pro with some gaps in your schedule. I’m not picky as long as you are a hard worker!

My graduates are extremely important to me, and trusting someone to work with them under my name comes with some high expectations, but if you think the person below describes you, I can't wait to bring you on the team!

Kind Words from a Current Team Member

Working as an Associate Photographer on the MKC team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career! I get to capture meaningful moments while being part of a team that values artistry, authenticity, and personal growth. Mary Kathryn leads with attention to detail and commitment to empowering her team.

If you are looking to grow as a photographer while being surrounded by passionate professionals who care deeply about their craft and their clients, I can’t recommend this opportunity enough!

-- MKC Associate Rachel

What are the responsibilities?

  • Being present in communication with the client. I'll handle the admin work, but if you can hop in and say hi, that's also great!
  • Photographing graduates alongside MKC as a second photographer until hired. You'll receive training in my client workflow, and once hired, will be expected to implement that process at your shoots.
  • Photographing graduates who have booked you through MKC Photography.
  • Delivering images to MK in a timely manner for editing and delivery to the client.

Who would this role benefit?

  • This role is perfect for the person who is passionate about photography but is uninterested or inexperienced in the business side of graduate photography.
  • Someone who is interested in photography as a side-hustle, but maybe not a full-time gig just yet.
  • A full-time wedding photographer who wants to fill more of their weekday open time
  • A photographer who just wants to shoot and work with accomplished young adults, but not worry about edits, marketing, or client interaction on the front end.

What're the perks?

  • Getting paid to do what you love
  • Work with great people + clients
  • NO editing. NO marketing. NO "business stuff." You shoot, I handle the rest
  • One-on-one mentoring with MKC

Who is the perfect MKC Associate?

The perfect MKC Associate is a warm, upbeat, and highly dependable creative who loves capturing joy-filled milestones. People naturally feel comfortable around them, and they’re confident posing a grad one minute and fixing a stray tassel the next.

They’re not just good with a camera—they’re great with people.

They have:

  • A strong foundation in natural light photography
  • Experience posing individuals (especially women)
  • A gear bag they’re proud of and know how to use (ideally full-frame + portrait lens)
  • A deep respect for punctuality, professionalism, and client care

They’re excited to be part of something bigger than themselves and love the idea of being mentored, supported, and booked—without needing to market, sell, or edit a single image themselves. They show up ready to serve with a positive attitude, follow directions well, and understand this role is both a creative outlet and a paid responsibility.

They might be:

  • A local lifestyle or wedding photographer looking for reliable weekday work
  • A newer photographer eager to grow through hands-on experience
  • A former grad who loved their MKC experience and wants to pass that magic on

Ultimately, they know this is more than just a photo session to our grads: it’s a once-in-a-lifetime rite of passage. And they’re honored to be the one who gets to document it.

Important Information:

  • This will be a position that is compatible with another part time or full time job.
  • This position does not include in-studio / office work, but it will require that you be available some weekends and evenings (for sessions), at big team events, and regular team meetings. Plenty of advance notice will be given for all of these.
  • You’ll have to commit to covering graduate sessions up to 8 months in advance at times.
  • Our interview process is not quick, but it’s effective, so get ready!
  • MKC will be responsible for the booking process, administration, post processing, and delivery of the finished product to clients.
